An ad video for Reels and Shorts: how to build it

In the feed you have a few seconds. How to build a short ad: what to show first, how to convey product quality, and why formats get rebuilt, not cropped.

In short. A short ad is decided in the first seconds: either people stop or they scroll past. So the script starts with "what must the viewer get immediately", and you film only what serves that answer. The rest is editing, sound and formats for each platform.

Reels, Shorts and TikTok have taught people to scroll fast. An ad gets no minute to warm up: the first frame either hooks or the clip is skipped. The good news is that the short format is honest: if the product is shown so people want to touch it, a few seconds are enough.

The structure of a short ad

  1. The hook — the first seconds. The product in action, an unusual angle or a question that hurts. Not a logo, not an intro.
  2. The key property. One, not five. What people pay for: material, result, convenience.
  3. Proof. A close-up, a detail, a comparison — something that confirms the words without words.
  4. The call. What to do next: visit, order, message.

The exact length depends on the platform and the task, but the rule is the same: every second must work for the sale, not for "looking nice".

Our example: MAN SET

For MAN SET, a premium men's underwear brand, the main task was to convey what words can't: material, texture, the quality of the stitching. That is exactly what makes the brand feel premium. The clip runs in digital campaigns, on the brand's social media, on the website and in product presentations.

Lesson. You don't show "premium" by saying the word. You show it in close-up: how the fabric falls, what the seam looks like, how the item behaves in motion.

Formats: rebuild, don't crop

Vertical for Reels and Shorts, square for the feed, horizontal for the website and YouTube — that's not one clip cropped three times. Each format gets its own composition so the product stays the centre of attention. We plan this during the shoot — then one production gives you the full set.

Editing, colour and sound

Colour grading, sound and pace are what separate an ad from a phone video. Many people watch the feed with the sound off, so key words should also appear as captions and the clip must make sense without the voice-over.

Filming or AI

Where the real texture of the product decides, filming is the honest choice. Where you need an unusual angle and have no budget for a crew, the clip can be made with AI tools — more in AI video for business: when it is enough.

What it costs

On our price list a full-cycle product ad with platform formats starts at €1,500, an AI clip at €2,000 and a clip in a series at €350. Prices exclude VAT.
